Praised for her “vivid stage presence and voice” (Seen and Heard International), mezzo-soprano Whitney Robinson is thrilled to return to Opera Saratoga for the 2022 season. Having made her debut with Opera Saratoga in 2019 performing the roles of the The Marquise of Berkenfield in La fille du régiment and the Witch in Hänsel und Gretel, she is delighted to return singing the role of Berta in Il barbiere di Siviglia and covering the role of Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd.

Most recently, Ms. Robinson returned to Virginia Opera as a Herndon Foundation Emerging Artist, singing the roles of Erda and Flosshilde in Das Rheingold, Marcellina in Le nozze di Figaro the and the Mother in the outreach production of Earth to Kenzie. As a member of Virginia Opera’s Herndon Foundation Emerging Artist’s Program from 2019-2020, she performed the role of Tisbe in La Cenerentola and also participated in the VOAF:Stayin’ Alive program. She also made her debut with Virginia Arts Festival singing the role of Sister Sophia in their production of The Sound of Music.

In the summer of 2018, Ms. Robinson made her debut at Central City Opera as a member of the Bonfils-Stanton Foundation Studio Artist program. Later that same year, she also made her debut with Odyssey Opera singing the role of Martine in Le Médecin malgré lui. 

Ms. Robinson received her Bachelor of Music in vocal performance from the University of Houston and received her Master of Music from the New England Conservatory. Ms. Robinson studied under Bradley Williams at the New England Conservatory of Music as the Artist Diploma Candidate. Her most recent performances at the New England Conservatory include the roles of La Zia Principessa in Suor Angelica, Zita in Gianni Schicchi, Marcellina in Le nozze di Figaro, the Old Lady in Candide.

Other opera credits include Thelma in Later the Same Evening, Witch/Mother in Hänsel und Gretel, Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte Madame de la Haltière in Cendrillon and China Cup/Dragonfly in L’enfant et les sortileges, Isabella in L’italiana in Algeri, Dame Carruthers in Yeoman of the Guard, Lady Sangazure in The Sorcerer, Praskowia in The Merry Widow, Clarina in La Cambiale di Matrimonio, Zita in Gianni Schicchi, Berta in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Mother in Tales of Hoffmann, Zaida in Il Turco in Italia and Giovanna in Rigoletto.
